Vista Hermosa Foundation

Vista Hermosa Foundation

Vista Hermosa Foundation was established by Ralph and Cheryl Broetje in 1988 in response to the need for quality, affordable childcare for low-income and farm-working families in southeastern Washington State.

Today, we serve as the charitable arm of Broetje Orchards to carry forth it’s mission of “bearing fruit that will last” (John 15:16). We receive over 50% of all Broetje Orchards’ profits annually to administer six core programs.

  • New Horizon Early Childhood Education Center. An on-site daycare licensed by the State of Washington for 71 children ages 1 month to 4 years old. Curriculum focuses on positive communication, self-care, group participation, pre-literacy, and English language skills.
  • Vista Hermosa Elementary. A Christian school for 120 students in pre-kinder through 6th grade. Programs include morning chapel, before-and-after school programs, music, Spanish literacy, and community service projects, in addition to reading, math, and science instruction.
  • Camp Vista. An 8-week summer program licensed by the State of Washington for 150 students entering grades 1-6. Morning instruction focuses on reading, math, science and art. Afternoon programs include cooking, gardening, swimming and field trips to local parks and museums.
  • Scholarships. Financial support for low-income and first generation college students committed to advancing their education in the context of community service. To be eligible, students must be children of Broetje Orchards employees or graduates of Jubilee Youth Ranch.
  • FirstFruits Funds. Funds established with Blue Mountain Community Foundation and Three Rivers Community Foundation to support local community-building initiatives in Walla Walla, Benton and Franklin counties.
  • International Grants. Partnerships with community-based projects in East Africa, India, Haiti, Mexico and Central America to promote sustainable development and change.
